Antique and Estate Jewelry By Period: Victorian and Earlier

Victorian Revival

Victorian Bow Bracelet with Etruscan Granulation Victorian Bow Bracelet with Etruscan Granulation. This antique Victorian gold-plated clamper bracelet has a tubular construction for the bracelet, which hinges at the large 2 1/4" bow. The bow is constructed in three layers, with tiny gilt metallic granulation, of a style called "sugared", and pierced work around the floral-shaped center.

The bracelet has aged very gracefully and is in very good condition. There is some color variation by design, and some due to natural patination. (Photos have been shot under natural daylight, and also with a flash.)

Victorian Etruscan jewelry is itself a revival style. The unearthing of past treasures in archaeological digs of the nineteenth century sparked interest in forgotten styles and techniques, in this case of the ancient Etruscans. They were noted for their incredible granulation work, some of it so tiny it's not clear how it was made. Some historians feel that the style is too fussy, but we disagree!
