The straw garden hat bears a rose on the headband and dangles pendant charms of a watering can, garden trowel, sunflower bloom, and bunny rabbit. Charms measure from 3/8" to 3/4" long. Signed Hoffman Sterling Vintage Butterfly Wing Brooch. Frederick S. Hoffman and Company, NY, NY, is the American parallel to Thomas L. Mott's English butterfly wing jewelry. The Hoffman Company made this jewelry in the 1930s and '40s.
As is typical for all this jewelry, the iridescent wings are from the Morpho butterfly from Brazil. The lovely sterling frame measures 1 3/8" across and holds a convex glass cover which protects the tropical reverse glass painting and wing. Giannas Gems particularly likes the way the sunset is reflected in the water.
The closed sterling back is signed "Hoffman sterling" in capital letters. Very good condition. DH356-08
