Tutankhamen Egyptian Sterling Earrings. These earrings date to the very important 1978 Metropolitan Museum of Art exhibition "Treasures of Tutankhamen". This was the first of the "blockbuster" exhibitions. There was a revival of interest in ancient Egyptian theme jewelry due to this show. I believe that these sterling cast and cutout earrings depict Tutankhamen's Queen sister/wife Ankhesenamen. In the very fine castings, she is shown with an elaborate pectoral decoration centering a sun disk. Atop her wig is a decoration of two tall plumes centering a lotus stalk, all above a sun disk. The earrings measure a total of 1 7/8" long and are a true pair (the earrings face each other). Very fine detail and excellent condition. DH181-07
Richly Colored Leopard Jasper Necklace & Carved Pendant. Jasper is one of the oldest gemstone. The name meant "spotted stone" in Anglo-French. It is an opaque, usually red stone which can be highly polished. It's mentioned several times in the Bible and is the stone for one of the tribes of Israel. The stone is also known for its wonderful markings. Volcanic flow and other geological processes produce bands, swirls, pictures and unusual markings.
Leopard jasper is a variety of chalcedony and is noted for its spots of color. Leopard jasper shows particularly well against dark skin.
This vintage Chinese necklace is a beautifully color-matched set of (62) 10mm beads, and a 2 1/8" pendant, carved on both sides as a gourd. The length of the beads, not including the pendant, is 27 inches. The jasper is a rich mahogany color with some striking white and black mottling. The beads and pendant are hand-knotted with silk cord. DH187-07 Another View - $70
