Signed Pink, Green and Yellow Gold Retro Bow Brooch. The bow, as an accessory, was popularized by the French, particularly the bow tie. It has always been an element of formal dress. The representation of flowing and folding 3D fabric in the Retro period is most notable in the bow, the most popular motif of the period. Gold in various colorations was also popular.
This very feminine vintage brooch is fashioned to form a tied bow, set on the side of a double wreath. The bow is strongly colored pink gold and pale green gold. The wreath is yellow gold. A prong set natural 5.5 mm faceted blue zircon centers the bow. Blue zircon was a popular choice from the 1920s-40s because of it's outstanding color, very high refraction, and striking contrast to pink gold. Size is 1 3/4" high x 1 1/2" wide. The pin closure is the old style of safety catch. It is marked 10K and has the maker's mark of SEMCO. Very good condition. Free Shipping/Insurance in the USA! DH7205 - $375

Pair of Featherlite/ Bubblelite Japanese Chrysanthemum Brooches. Called featherlite, featherlight, featherweight, bubblelite, and bubblelight, the material of these brooches can stump people and create a lot of confusion. It is often classified with plastics, but is described as a meerschaum-like clay material. It was most used by the Japanese in the post-war period, usually in finely detailed floral items that resemble celluloid. At any rate, it is another category of jewelry in which good samples are disappearing.
These brooches each measure 1 3/8" across, with a myriad of white petals. The shadow areas and central stamens are tinted with a black wash of paint. The backs show a little unevenness to the edges from the mold. Very good, clean condition.
The chrysanthemum is a revered Japanese flower. It is the official seal of the emperor and is honored in Japan during National Chrysanthemum Day. Shipping/Insurance is free in the USA! DH12807 - $44

Lacy Sterling Cutout Brooch. Wonderful to use this on a little purse, this Edwardian-inspired sterling estate brooch reminds Giannas of a delicate cutwork textile. Its lace-like appearance is due to a very fine casting comprised of four pieces. The elegant symmetry of the design, showcasing "diamonds", is an example of the Edwardian aesthetic. Its jewelry was designed for high society.
The sinuous silhouette looks striking against dark colored clothing. The brooch measures 2 3/4" across. Rhinestones are set into and around a black enamel oval plaque in the center, and into the plant tendrils to each side. "925" plaque on back. Excellent condition. Free Shipping/Insurance in the USA!
