Large Russian Amber Ring. This vintage ring features a large amber gem, measuring 1 1/4" long. The and slightly faceted on the top and depicts the usual "stuff" floating in amber. "Amber is like a time capsule made and placed in the earth by nature herself," author David Federman, states in Consumer Guide to Colored Gemstones. "More than 1,000 extinct species of insects have been identified in amber."
The ring is adjustable and is currently a size 6 1/2" The ring is stamped MET for a type of German silver and is of Russian origin. There are two main sources of amber--the Baltic States and the Dominican Republic. Baltic amber is older and preferred for this reason. DH290-07
